Bank stabilisation using willow spiling on housing development

What do you do if previous attempts to stabilise a bank using concrete and stone (hard-engineering) have failed? In this instance, we used willow spiling along a section of earth bank that supports an access road to a housing development.

As this was a residential setting, we chose a number of willow varieties for their aesthetic appeal.

The solution couldn't have been better: the development now has a lovely, willow bank with lush foliage in summer and plenty of colour from the rods in winter. A bank that was prone to erosion has been stabilised and there is no danger of the mill race being overgrown.

Take a look at the images below and call us on 01453 822584 or email us with your erosion control enquiry

We can assess your erosion control problem, often from photos emailed to us, and provide advice on solutions. We offer willow spiling, pre-planted coir rolls, combined solutions and river engineering. We can also deal with Environment Agency licences for work on watercourses if applicable.
