Pond desilting, vegetation clearance and channel outlet creation

The client had purchased a property in Gloucestershire with a picturesque but rather overgrown and silted up pond and were looking to clear the pond and create more depth in the water.  The pond had been colonised by reedmace which was trapping sediment and would have dominated the water completely if not dealt with.

JPR carried out some testing on the silt to ascertain the best way of clearing it and came up with a programme of works which involved clearing the pond of silt and vegetation, drying the silt in bags on site (removing the silt from site would have been very costly in time and money) and creation of a new outlet so that the water can move more freely and silt is less likely to build up.

The client now has their desired vista across the pond which will also be easier to manage in future.  The water is much deeper than before and flows freely through the outlet from the river above.  The water can be maintained at a deeper level with the improved flow through from top to bottom, meaning that the pond will stay as open water and be less likely to be submerged under vegetation.
