Client: EG Carter Development Ltd
An old allotment site had been earmarked for a small social housing development in Shirehampton on the outskirts of Bristol. The site was found to contain a significant population of slow worms.
The client needed to isolate the site and remove the slow worms before development. The site had also been left pretty much untouched for a number of years so there was a significant amount of scrub and undergrowth to clear to encourage the slow worms off the site and prevent birds nesting.
In May 2008 JPR Environmental undertook an ecologically sensitive programmer of site clearance to remove any potential trees and large shrubs that birds may nest in. We then installed about 400m metres of standard reptile exclusion fencing which allowed the ecologist to trap off the area. We are undertaking regular maintenance of the fence including strimming the outside line to clear undergrowth and discourage the reptiles from returning.
