Site Creation
Client: Baylis Estate
Location: Bristol
Service: Habitat Restoration
Project Outline:
Work at Cribbs Causeway including pond creation, site fencing, hedgerow translocation, tree clearance, fencing and creation of a haul road.
JPR Environmental undertook a number of planning requirements
Baylis Estates who own the Cribbs Causeway retail park, engaged JPR Environmental to undertake a number of planning requirements for their pre-enabling works on site. JPR was chosen for our expertise with protected species and experience with ecological works.
Benefits to the client:
JPR were able to accurately interpret the mitigation plan so that Baylis could discharge their planning conditions to the satisfaction of the planning authority. JPR also managed the creation of the haul road with everything that entailed including liaising with Gloucestershire Highways, dealing with land closures and managing subcontractors.
Sustainable drainage system:
The site has an existing pond which will eventually be reshaped. JPR created a new pond and together, these ponds will provide a Sustainable Drainage System (SuDS) when the development is complete. This will deal with all run-off water from the site and direct it into a drain and away.
Haul road:
The site required a new haul road to be constructed into the development area. This was from the busy highway and required a lane of the highway to be closed during construction. JPR managed this area of the project from liaising with Highways to managing the subcontractors (in this case Smiths Gloucester) to do the bulk of the construction and lay the tarmac.
Fencing and hedgerow translocation:
The site had an important hedgerow that needed to be translocated. This required carefully grubbing up of the hedge, moving and replanting it on a different part of the site. The site also required extensive security fencing to ensure that the public could still cross the site safely (there is an existing public footpath).
JPR aims to help clients and individuals enhance the natural environment so it has been great to see the old pond and hedgerow maintained and a new pond created. It was particularly satisfying to manage so much of the pre-construction phase from start to finish.
JPR’s management of the project meant the enabling works were completed on time and to budget which allowed the client to continue with their development plans.
“….very open and friendly approach to business, with a wealth of knowledge and expertise.”
James Stanger, Project Manager, GVA Grimley commenting on JPR’s approach to the Cribbs Causeway project.
