The Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust commissioned JPR Environmental to create a raised platform and ramp so that people with impaired movement have access to a viewing area across the world-famous wildlife reserve. The ramp required a retaining wall with was created with FlexMSE.
The Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust visitor centre at Slimbridge in Gloucestershire is world-renowned for visiting populations of wildfowl in addition to first class visitor facilities. The Trust prides itself on continuing to improve access to the centre for people with disabilities. This viewing ramp opens up an area of the site that was previously inaccessible for people with mobility issues.
JPR Environmental have a long association of carrying out works for The Trust and were contracted to undertake the ramp and platform works necessary to develop the viewing area.
FlexMSE was used for the retaining wall of the ramp. This is a vegetated wall system that is used worldwide for retaining walls. It is a unique soft building material that exhibits hard material qualities. It weathers well, getting stronger and greener as time goes on.
The project works involved the design of the ramp, construction of connecting pathways to the ramp, excavation of topsoil, creation of a gravel path and the installation of a post and rail fence.
JPR was able to bring a range of skills to complete this project to the satisfaction of the client.
